The story of Mukul Dev’s next is similar to that of TV show ‘Gulaal’Mukul Dev, who was last seen as a drunkard in “Yamla Pagla Deewana”, has signed his next movie, titled “Jal”, which is being directed by Girish Mallik. The movie, set in Kutch, will have Mukul sharing screen space with VJ-turned-actor
Purab Kohli. Confirming the news, Mukul says, “I’ll be playing the role of a tribal lord, who is very sharp in his observations and dealings with people, but is also very shrewd and merciless by nature.
Though I had fun doing this role, I had a tough time dealing with a lot of backbreaking camel rides and the scorching heat.”
The shooting for the movie, which started in mid-March, is now nearly complete, with only 10-15% left. As the name suggests, “Jal” deals with water and its acute shortage in Kutch. It revolves around two villages, which struggle to survive due to this shortage. In between this struggle for survival comes a man with mystical powers, who uses them to find water hidden beneath the sand. “I play the antagonist, who opposes this man at every point,” says Mukul.
But isn’t the story of the film quite similar to the plot of the TV serial “Gulaal”, which is also shot in Kutch, and in which the protagonist has the unique gift of unearthing water in the arid land? “I don’t think so. As far as our script is concerned, I’m sure it’s different from that serial,” says Mukul. Explaining how “Jal” is different from “Gulaal”, the actor says, “Unlike in the serial, our film deals with the conflict between science and spirituality. You will see a very raw and real picture of what happens in a land where everyday is a struggle.”
